Mrs. Turner teaches band at STMS which is a year-long class. Students enter band in 6th grade where they choose between many different wind instruments. It is encouraged that students begin their band journey in 6th grade, but on rare occasion students can begin in 7th grade with approval from Mrs. Turner. Students progress each year to gain more skills and become better musicians. Each year, the music the students perform will be more challenging music and get more opportunities to perform. The band will perform 2 or more concerts a year. The 8th grade band (and possibly 7th grade band) will attend SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment each spring and at times perform at Carowinds Festival of Music or other similar performance options. Students will have opportunities to develop their individual musicality through Honor Band, Region/All-State Band, and Solo & Ensemble Festival.
